The British Ultra Fest would not be happening this August without the help of Paul Fernandez. It was Paul who first suggested to Race Director Pam Storey that Radley College may be a suitable venue to manifest her dream of a 6 day race in the UK after the disappointment of Lingfield Park proving to be unavailable at the right time.
Paul is head of Adventurous Activities at Radley and his knowledge of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Combined Cadet Force with its range of outdoor activities including Hill Walking, Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Trail Cycling, Skiing and Paddlesport place Paul in a perfect position to liaise between the organising team and Radley College.
Paul has been running ultramarathons for quite a few years with his club the Abingdon A.C. (Amblers). Having represented England at the 100 km Championships in 2011 and 2012 and at the the 50 km IAU World Trophy Final, Galway, Paul has demonstrated his endurance capacity. In March this year Paul won the 50 km at Perth in 3:04:07 and last year ran his best marathon at the local Abingdon Marathon with a time of 2:32:02.
As well as possessing speed in the shorter ultramarathons, Paul has been working on his 24 hour performances and with 204.362 at the Self-Transcendence 24 hour in Tooting Bec in 2010, Paul will be looking to run 200 km+ in his next race and we are happy to have Paul entered in the 24 hour at on his home ground, Radley College.
We are very grateful to Paul for all the work he has put into the British Ultra Fest and we wish him every success in the event on August 16th 2013.
